Compression Mounting

Compression mounting uses heat and pressure to encapsulate the sample in a mounting compound. This technique minimizes shrinkgage thereby protecting and preserving edges as well as surface defects during preparation steps. Many presses include a controlled cool down cycle to further enhance the edge retntion while decreasing the overall mounting cycle time. The resulting mount is consistent in size and shape and can be readily labeled.
